Characters & Plot
Numerous people had been traveling over the city’s boundaries like any given day. This city was called Chester’s Mill. The small little town was located in Maine. All the towns folks got along. However, that all changed the same day Dale Barbara was trying to leave Chester's Mill (1). Just as Barbara was traveling closer to the city’s boundary, he had looked up and noticed an aircraft falling from the sky while in a blaze (12). Only thing is, Barbara was not the only one to notice weird things that happened along the city’s boundaries. A man named Clay Brassey, would find a deer had been running then snapped its neck instantly. This would be known as the day the dome had appeared (37).
Even with the dome appearing it was not the only thing that had been happening with living organism being killed. Junior, Big Jim’s son, had gone over to Angie McCain’s house to see her. Nevertheless, when Angie opened the door it would not end well. Once Junior had thrusted his hand at Angie, it would not be the end of things. The violence increased dramatically, Angie had been screeching for dear life. Things changed within Junior. He could not handle himself no longer and spun her into the “Coldspot.” At that moment, she would be coincidently known as dead. (19-25)
On the contrary, Junior was not the only one that would need to be watched quite carefully. Big Jim was another concern among Brenda, Chief Perkin’s now widow, and Barbara. Brenda mentions just enough of what her husband had been doing before he previously passed. She even states how Big Jim will change once the military’s plan is put into action. Barbara ends up running through what could happen along with the plan to get rid of the dome that imprisons Chester’s Mill and its citizens (274-275).
Equally important as Brenda and Barbara sharing information, is how the United States Military becomes more involved. As recently stated the military had a plan for trying to get rid of the dome. However, once Colonel Cox finds out Barbara is in is jail for a wrongfully accused murder. Colonel Cox had told Big Jim he would find ways to take control of the town and to free one of his ex-soldiers. Also, the Colonel will allow outside media to spread what Big Jim has hidden from the citizens of Chester’s mill and what is going on so far. (712-713)

Symbols
There are many great symbols that are related today in society and also to others personally. A great example is when Brenda and Barbara are sharing information of what Big Jim has done in his position as a city official (274-275). This relates to today with how corrupt the government can be at times and hiding things that the people should actually know. Another example is how people can be wrongfully accused just like Barbara had been (665 & 674).
